This month's Public Health Council meeting featured a series of discussions and informational presentations on public health trends and issues facing the Commonwealth.
First, the Council heard a presentation from Dr. Madeleine Biondolillo, Director of the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality, on Steward Health System Monitoring. This is a regular assessment of the Steward Health System goals, management strategies, staffing, patient experience, clinical outcomes and other factors, which was put into place following the acquisition of Caritas Christi hospitals by Steward in 2010.

The Council then approved a Determination of Need application for the transfer of ownership of New England Sinai Hospital in Boston to Steward Health Systems.
In other business, the Council voted to approve allowing remote participation by PHC members during Council meetings in accordance with provisions set out in the Commonwealth's Open Meeting Laws.
PHC members then heard an informational presentation on proposed amendments to regulations which would revise the current Medication Administration Program (MAP) to include minors served by the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Mental Health in Group Living Environments.
Finally, Dr. Madeleine Biondolillo and Iyah Romm of the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality provided an update to the Council on a series of bureau initiatives, including Primary Stroke Services Data, Healthcare Associated Infections Data, and the Vaginal Hysterectomy Infection Quality Improvement Collaborative.
