Being a mom is so busy these days, running from here to there. And somehow, we still need to manage to complete weekly tasks like making it to the grocery store to pick up food for the family. Do you ever feel that it’s not always easy to find the WIC approved foods that you are looking for on the shelves? To help save you time at the grocery store, WIC has designed shelf tags that have the WIC logo on them. These shelf tags can be used by grocery stores to help you identify WIC approved foods easily and quickly – making trips to the grocery store short and sweet. Is your local grocery store using WIC shelf tags? If not, let us know by clicking on the ‘comment’ link below and we’ll send them a supply of shelf tags.

Even when you find these tags, though, it's a good idea to double check the item on your voucher just to be safe. I've run into stores that have marked the wrong items as WIC approved, only to cause confusion and longer checkout times when leaving.
MassWIC Response: Hi Lynn! Excellent point! Although we try our best to encourage stores to use shelf tags, there are times when even they get confused about which items are WIC approved. You should always carry your WIC Approved Food Guide as a reference. You can download a new one from our website at www.mass.gov/wic.
