From time to time we all have nutrition questions, especially if we’re pregnant or raising children. Families struggle everyday to eat healthy and make food choices that are acceptable to picky eaters – all while staying within a budget. The best way to get answers and ideas to these challenges is to turn to a trusted source of nutrition information. The WIC Nutrition Program is that trusted source – and that’s what the “Ask Mass WIC” blog is all about. In addition to providing food, nutrition education and breastfeeding support to pregnant women and moms with kids, Massachusetts WIC employs 200 credentialed nutritionists across the Commonwealth. Feel free to use this space to tap into our expertise and get useful information on a variety of nutrition issues related to raising and feeding a healthy family. Do you have questions about the WIC program and its services? Not sure if your favorite cereal is WIC approved? Can’t find a WIC store in your neighborhood? Hi, I was just at the new Brighton WIC office, and I was given info on the farmers market registration. Unfortunately, I can't find it. I'm a busy single mom, and I don't want to miss out. I have called the office and left a message, but no one ever gets back to me. Do you know where ? When? and if I could get this info online in the future?
MassWIC Response:
Hi Lisa! We are very sorry that you are having trouble getting through to the Brighton WIC Program. But, the good news is you didn’t miss the Brighton WIC’s Farmers’ Market Event. Brighton WIC’s Farmers’ Market check distribution day is July 18th from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm and there will be one at their Roslindale office as well on July 16th from 7:30 am -6:00 pm. However, you will still need to call Brighton WIC to register at 617-254-0492. Thanks!

I'm a WIC participant, and I went to my local WIC office along with my five-month-old daughter for an appointment today. I was given a spill-proof cup for my daughter to use, and I decided to check to make sure that the type of plastics that it's composed of are safe. (Many products for babies still contain BPA, phthalates, and PVC, just to name a few!) The spout is composed of plastic #5, which is generally safe. However, the cup itself composed of plastic #3 (PVC) which is known to be the most toxic plastic of all to humans (especially babies). Will WIC please stop distributing these cups?
