It seems that I can’t step foot in a gym or grocery store these days without seeing the benefits of coconut water advertised. This drink is so popular that the Jamaica Coconut Industry board is pushing for production of more than 100,000 new plants per year, just to keep up with the demand! With popular stars trying new fad “coconut diets” to lose weight, it’s no wonder that the general public would be curious about the benefits. Although the drink claims to be low in sugar, one package contains the same amount of sugar and calories as a serving of fruit, but without any of the filling fiber.
So I got to thinking, “what’s so great about coconut water?” This drink boasts more potassium than a banana, and claims to replenish and rehydrate the body after a workout. The key here I think is the word “workout”. Coconut water, like any electrolyte-replacement beverage, isn’t necessary if you’re not exercising for a long period of time. It might help hydration, but at over $2 per package I’m still satisfied with good old-fashioned (no-cost tap, calorie-free!) water.
I wonder if anyone has noticed a difference in their workouts after using coconut water? What do you think? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

This is nearly a year after your article but I have found it to be a great hangover preventer. Its almost perfect and I have asked friends to try it and seems to work well. I drink one that is 100% natural right before bed and I'm good to go the next day.
